Details:
The Bayerische Eisenbahngesellschaft (BEG) is a company owned by the state of Bavaria, Germany. On behalf of the Bavarian State Ministry for Housing, Construction and Transport, BEG plans, finances, and oversees regional and suburban rail traffic in Bavaria. BEG’s main tasks include designing and improving timetables as well as carrying out quality assurance. Contracts for transport services are awarded in competitive processes, going to the transport company that submits the most economical bid overall, i.e. the bid that is best in terms of quality and price. As a result of competition between rail transport companies, since 1996, espacially in recent years BEG has been able to continuously improve not only the rail timetable but also quality features such as comfort and passenger information. Major successes included the introduction of the Bayern-Takt – an hourly service for almost all of Bavaria – and the Bayern-Ticket.
