In a decree issued by the Saxonian Revenue Office Dresden South, railML.org e.V. is recognised as a non-profit organisation and designated as a worthy recipient of charitable contributions. Our mission

Our mission is to serve the entire railway sector by developing open data exchange standard while remaining wholly independent of railways, manufacturers and authorities. In today's world, connecting various railway software applications often presents significant challenges. To address this issue, the railML.org initiative is committed to exploring, discussing and presenting systematic XML-based solutions for simplifying data exchange between them. Our obligation to these goals has stayed steady since our establishment. We promote the principles of open-source software, characterised by peer production, accessible documentation and source code availability — all provided to the public at no cost.

Coordination and Governance

railML.org relies on the support and financial contributions of stakeholders who are engaged in the advancement of railML®. The governance of railML.org is structured around a stakeholder meeting, with the strategic coordination and management led by Eng. Vasco Paul Kolmorgen, MSc, and Dr. Nadia Huerlimann, PhD, MSc. They are supported by five subschema coordinators from industry-leading competence centres. The continuous development of the railML® standard is driven by this governance framework, with additional contributions from working groups composed of individuals, organisations and businesses worldwide. Participation in working groups is open to all those interested in the long-term evolution of railML.

Our administrative operations are centralised in Dresden, Germany.
