Dear all,

within the ETCS Track Net use case working group we discussed how to match the existing electrification model with the requirements coming from the ETCS environment. The focus of discussion was on the ETCS variable NID_CTRACTION, which includes several information (15 different criteria) in one single enumeration like variable.

It was concluded that because of the importance of this variable for ETCS related projects as intended by the ETCS Track Net use case (see [1]), the variable shall be added to the existing electrification model in railML 3.

There are two options for implementation:

1) explicitly implement variable NID_CTRACTION, e.g. <electrificationSection/etcs>@nid_ctraction

2) implement all 15 criteria that form the basis for deriving NID_CTRACTION. This includes country identification, information about frequency fluctuations and voltage ranges as well as pantograph spacing and maximum train current data.

The ETCS use case working group preferred option 1). How about further opinions from the railML community? Any comments are highly appreciated...

Dear all,

I filed a Trac ticket #439 [1] for this issue including the solution proposal. Any feedback is very much appreciated.
