Hi,

For an unambigious designation of linear positioning system (LPS) I suggest to add the standarized <designator> sub element to <linearPositioningSystem> [1] element in Common in railML3.4.

For rerefence the <geometricPositioningSystem> [2] has a unambigious reference through to EPSG codes refered to in the crsDefinition attribute.


This for the RTCI UC in an international (cross-border) perspective.

I agree with Torben.

Wouldn't this also not be a good idea to extend the <designator> (and the <elementState>!) to all elements? Including topology elements.

Dear Torben

In railML 3.4 the modelling is such that linearPositioningSystem has new children start- and endNotation which refer to notationSystem. See https://development.railml.org/railml/version3/-/work_items/ 687 . The modelling was requested by German project IDX4rail where notation systems play a big role.

This element is a reference to an external database that contains description of linearPositioningSystem. On the other side it implies also unique identification of linear positioning system through this reference.

Please let us know if this modelling is sufficient for you use case.
