Hello community,
Related to this topic that deals with the problem of creating a schematic track layout when there area simple crossings: https://www.railml.org/forum/index.php?t=msg&th=1108
During the railML vs BaneNOR discussions, the question was raised whether the solution proposed for simple crossings is also necessary for under- or overCrossings that have a <crossesElement> child.
Typical examples would be a track running in a tunnel beneath another track, or a track on a bridge crossing over another track. From a schematic layout perspective, these situations are very similar to a simple crossing, even though they are separated vertically.
This raises the question whether the solution proposed for simple crossings should also be applicable (or explicitly available) for under- and overCrossings. I would be interested to hear whether others see a similar need, or if there are reasons to treat these cases differently.

Dear Mathias,
thank you for bringing up this topic and summarizing the related discussion from the BaneNOR workshop. The examples that you described sound reasonable to me and I am curious to see if there is more interest in this topic by the community.
In case of a decision for having this feature, a possible model implementation can be close to the solution with the simple crossing described in [1]. Instead of referencing to a <netElement>, it may be an option to reference the <crossesElement> child elements instead. But before we dive into details, let's hear what the community thinks... any feedback is highly appreciated :-)
