Dear all

trainDetectionElement/@layout attribute [1] seems to be not used by community and it's enumeration "doubleLoop, doubleSensor, railCircuitStandAlone, singleLoop, singleSensor, tripleLoop" is unclear.

Therefore, if no feedback on the following questions is obtained till 2025-11-08 there is an idea to deprecate trainDetectionElement/@layout in railML 3.4.

1) Do you use trainDetectionElement/@layout?

2) If yes, could you please provide definitions of the enumeration values?

If the attribute is needed railML.org could also consider remodelling enumeration values.

To date at SBB, we do not use this information in the use case "exchange of engineering data for signalling systems".

We do not use trainDetectionElement/@layout and don´t see any future need of doing so.
