Dear all
In railML2 geoCoord element has attributes @extraHeight and @heightEpsgCode for recording heights or depths [1]. This can be useful "if altitudes are stored in an own reference system" and "if there are no long/lat coords given or known but a height".
When encoding data in railML3, the first case, i.e. user has x and y coordinates in reference system 1 and coordinate z in reference system 2, can be with some effort managed via translation from reference system 1 to reference system 2 if there any way for this.
The case "there are no long/lat coords given or known but a height" however is not possible in railML3 at all because:
1) geometricCoordinate/@x is mandatory
2) presumable correspondence in gml:VerticalCRS cannot be used in railML3
Since railML.org is now collecting requirements for railML 3.4, we would be grateful if you could tell us if case "there are no long/lat coords given or known but a height" is of interest of railML3 community.
Possible solutions are as follows:
- @x and @y of geometricCoordinate shall be made optional in railML 3.4
- gml:VerticalCRS or more appropriate element from GML shall be introduced.
railML.org would be grateful if you could provide your answers till 2025-11-08.
