Conference report

In the first week of November railML celebrated its 30th conference! It took place together with the 7th UIC RailTopoModel conference in Paris on the 3rd of November, 2016. We are very proud that the number of participants and therefore RailTopoModel and railML interested people is constantly rising. The autumn conference recorded more than 90 participants from all over Europe.

A very inspiring presentation by Samy Scemama (AFNeT) focussing on fostering business performance with digital standards in the railway sector brought together numerous conference participants on the pre conference evening, for discussion, networking and some finger food @ UIC.

In terms of content the main conference day was opened by a RailTopoModel session giving an overview of the status, the roadmap including the future developments, and a new aspect of RailTopoModel, the time dimensioning. Furthermore, Douglas Young (High Speed Two (HS2) Ltd), Veronica Tverbakk (Jernbaneverekt), Benedikt Wenzel (Signon) and Bart van der Spiegel (Infrabel) gave insights into their practical work in daily business.

The afternoon part of the conference was dedicated to railML. Christian Rahmig, Infrastructure coordinator informed about alterations regarding the railML 3 development and announced, September 2017, as the release date of railML 3.1. Subsequently Bob Janssen, Interlocking coordinator, gave a short presentation on the interlocking schema. Juraj Kovac (Some move) from the Czech Republic introduced the new railML certification manual. This manual shall ensure a transparent and comprehensible certification process of railML interfaces and function as the main information source for certification applicants. A first release candidate can be downloaded from our webpage, comments are welcome (not later than December 4th, 2016). The prospective effectiveness of the manual is 1st of January, 2017. overall coordinator, Vasco Paul Kolmorgen, not only introduced railVIVID´s version 1.1, which contains new functions and a strongly improved usability but also demonstrated the new software filter possibilities of our website. From now on interested parties can filter the software by interface type, programme type, use cases and railML version. As we had to migrate the data base into the new system we would kindly like to ask all partner companies that have railML registered software to cross read their entries and possibly inform us about any missing/incorrect information. We apologize for any arisen errors. A further very important organisational announcement of Vasco Paul Kolmorgen was that the support of the railML versions 2.0 and 2.1 will be terminated by March 2017.

The successful conference was closed by Winfried Stix (ÖBB Infra) with the famous Lao Tzu traveling quote: A good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent upon arriving.
