The IDX4rail mFUND research project, focused on improving data management for both heavy and light railway operators, made a successful debut at InnoTrans 2024. Held between September 24th and 27th in Berlin, the event brought together industry leaders, experts and innovators from around the globe to explore the latest developments in rail technology.
At the event, the IDX4rail partners proudly presented the innovative project, which integrates the railML and IDMVU standards to create a future-proof and harmonized interface landscape for rail infrastructure data management. The presentation attracted considerable attention from British, German, Irish, Italian, Indian, Swedish and many other tram and railway operators, who were eager to learn about the project’s potential use cases. With the project currently in the modelling phase, it was a great opportunity to gather insights from public transport operators into their data management needs.
Additionally, there was the strong interest in supporting the railML standard and the launch of upcoming railML 3.3 development. Railway managers and software engineers expressed their commitment to forming new partnerships to further contribute to the development of the open-source standard. This positive reception highlights the growing demand for advanced data management solutions in the railway sector.
The event was not only a platform for showcasing the IDX4rail project but also an opportunity to connect with key stakeholders in the rail industry. The first phase of the IDX4rail website has been launched, offering more detailed information on the project. We welcome feedback from the community and anyone interested can comment or reach out via info@idx4rail.railml.org.
We are excited about opportunities this exposure has opened for us and look forward to the future progress. See you again at InnoTrans 2026!
