We have proudly presented the first results of our research project IDX4rail at the mFUND conference in Berlin today. IDX4rail, the German Railway and Tramway Open Data Project, makes a significant progress in integrating data for railway and tramway infrastructures. It is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport under the mFund umbrella.

A key focus of the initiative is the consolidation of the railML and IDMVU standards to create a unified, interoperable data foundation that enhances efficiency in the planning, operations and maintenance of light and heavy rail infrastructure. During the session "Public Transport and Rail Transport: Harmonization and Standardization of Data and Processes," moderated by Tim Rittmann from BMDV, railML.org team presented the first results of the project. Eight specific use cases that demonstrate how these integrated data models can improve operational efficiency and safety have been highlighted, with contributions from Christian Rahmig and Milan Wölke.

The use of open ontologies to map these standards was also explored by Dr. Larysa Zhuchyi. She believes that using ontologies provides a foundation for flexible and scalable data integration across systems in the project.

By providing open access to infrastructure data, we aim to drive digital transformation and new solutions in the mobility sector. Looking ahead, while we are excited to further integrate these standards with Building Information Modeling (BIM), we warmly welcome the further collaborations with IDX4rail community.
