The IFB Institut für Bahntechnik GmbH as a highly specialized engineering company provides a wide range of services in terms of consulting, design, engineering, research and development for modern railway systems. The mentality and the working methods of the IFB experts specialized on vehicle technology, drive and propulsion systems, power supply, signalling and operation control systems as well as engineering and project management is strongly multidisciplinary. The company has two offices each in Berlin and in Dresden with customers not only in Germany but all over the world.
One part of our works is the simulation of railway operation with the aim to assess operational questions and the stability of the electrical power supply network of the railway system. For the purpose of simulation of railway power supply we have the network calculation package „µPAS“. It allows the calculation of load flow and short circuit data in catenary and supply network with defined distributed loads per location or by train running simulation. For the train running simulation the program can use railML 2.1/2.2 to import timetable data including railway lines and basic rollingstock data.
The challenge for each simulation is the data collection and network modelling. This is our motivation for railML to allow more efficient data exchange for such simulation tasks.
