Details:

The Stadler Vehicle Information System is part of the vehicle. The system provides services that relate the current state of the vehicle to the operational context such as the timetable or the railway infrastructure the vehicle travels on.

There are three main purposes of the vehicle information system: communication with traffic management systems, passenger information on board, and driver assistance services.
In the segment communication with traffic management systems, the vehicle information system computes the operational state of the vehicle by relating vehicle process data with timetable and railway infrastructure data delivered via railML. Moreover, the system processes orders from the traffic manager.
In the segment passenger information on board, the vehicle information system controls passenger information displays and the passenger announcement system with respect to the operational state of the vehicle. This is based on a railML-representation of the timetable and dedicated infrastructure information such as distances between stations or so-called trigger-points.
In the segment driver assistance, the vehicle information system computes optimal speed profiles based on timetable and railway infrastructure as delivered via railML-interface. Moreover, the system monitors specific infrastructure-related parameters such as range of the traction battery in case of battery-electric vehicles.
