RailTopoModel and railML session at ADIF

On invitation of Francisco Luna Millán a team of seven RTM and railML.org representative came to the headquarter of ADIF, Madrid. Aim of the meeting was to inform ADIF´s management about the development, advantages, implementation and future prospective of RailTopoModel and railML. The very interested audience mainly had an asset management background and came from various different Spanish companies and institutions.

Airy Magnien, UIC (Paris) started the session with general words from UIC perspective. Second Vasco Paul Kolmorgen, coordinator of railML.org (Dresden) talked about the motivation, history and organisation of railML.org. Afterwards, Alain Jeanmaire, SNCF Réseau (Paris), Torben Brand, Jernbaneverket (Oslo) and Winfried Stix, ÖBB (Vienna) reported about implementation of RailTopoModel and railML in their companies. They focused on the process of integrating RTM and railML internally and demonstrated some practical examples, which show the advantages of a standardized interface (railML) clearly. Before the lunch break Francisco Luna Millán took the chance to show us and all other guests what ADIF, among others, has been working on in the past year. He presented a railML file, containing the Spanish network with the help of the railML-viewer railVIVID. Last but not least Christian Rahmig, Infrastructure coordinator at railML.org (Dresden) introduced RailTopoModel and railML 3 from a more technical view. The Spanish audience participated actively during his presentation and was interested in getting to know more about the modelling.

To conclude the meeting was very important for railML.org and RailTopoModel to raise awareness in the Spanish railway market. A future closer collaboration between RTM/railML.org and ADIF is likely and is currently discussed internally.
